The American Melting Pot Myth. Top Ten Promotion Checklist for Business Success.

Most myths have some element of truth in them. The &melting pot' that media of all sorts (which includes our propaganda in law and education) tell us became America, is another of the half-truths or superficial observations which deserves a little study if we are to accept the deeper potential meaning in it. John Hope Franklin of Duke University is a respected Black scholar who says some powerful words after pointing out the kind of thing that media managers or manipulators galore have said about the open-minded American with no reason to bring prejudices to this new and exciting land of opportunity. I would point out that it was not so new and historians like himself have participated in a cover-up but let us see what this man has to say about the &melting pot'.

People do not generally like to find out that they have &bastards' in their family tree and the woodpiles of America created a lot of &bastards'. My father used to tell us about the Virginia legislature and legislation proposed that would make anyone with any black blood not able to sit and participate in it. This was the early 1950s not the 1850s. One legislator did the research that most Americans will not even do about their own family. He did not get more than half way through exposing every member of the legislature for their mulatto blood when the others were all in an uproar and clamoring that he must b silenced.

"This was one of the earliest expressions of the notion that the process of Americanization involved the creation of an entirely new mode of life that would replace the ethnic backgrounds of those who were a part of the process. It ignored the tenacity with which the Pennsylvania Dutch held onto their language, religion, and way of life.

In fact there was no race that had not been coming to America since before the time of Christ. Genetics is indeed a powerful tool used in court to free innocent victims of our justice system but so far our history is still allowing lies to victimize our cultural perspectives or myths. It is important that we act as if there is no race except the human race.

A LOST WORLD OF SOUL

When you hear the word 'divination', chances are that certain images-- will spring to mind: dark gypsy fortune-tellers, tea-leaves, and crystal balls; a scene in a movie when the Ace of Spades falls in a card game or a strange figure draws the Tarot trump Death; charlatans, ouija boards, and phony swamis; or, perhaps, witch doctors and medicine men chanting around a fire. If you look a little deeper, you might see another kind of image lurking in the background: dark magicians in graveyards seeking forbidden knowledge, conjuring demons and the spirits of the dead.

These images express attitudes - ridicule and fear - with a long history. For well over a thousand years, divination was a mortal sin and a capital crime in Western culture, a 'conversation with the devil' that was banished along with the old gods and the wise women. Divination is a central part of pagan culture and the pagan sense of a cosmos or 'living- world'. With the rise of the Church to political power in late antiquity, the old gods of this culture became devils and the living world became their work. With the rise of our modern 'scientific laws' of cause and effect, the devils in turn became superstitions, tales told by those considered to be marginal or uneducated such as women, lunatics, criminals, and savages. In spite of our inherited assumptions, divination is not a collection of superstitions. It is an outlawed way of knowing and speaking with a living world, a world ensouled and full of spirit." (1)

Every aspect of life and many of the things considered to have no life or soul have been used in telling the intent and flow of nature. To say there is no destiny is common among the artists or scientists of each divinatory method and all understand the part we have to play. In the world of 'seems to be' that focuses on material and 'real' causes that MUST be seen (what can be called the "Toilet Philosophy") there is more superstition and destiny type of ideologies. Astrology is a refined mathematical method that has been considered a science even during the proscriptions against divinatory methodology and the rulers often were engaged in doing that which they tried to stop others from doing. We have dealt with some general divinatory methods such as 'divining rods' in 'Science' and we will cover others as we move along. The art and talent of knowing yourself and your 'center' or soul is clearly something 'free' and beyond acceptance of interpreters or priests. It was necessary to stop this freedom in order to gain total power or as close to it as possible. This book has an Orisha practice that is used in supposedly Christian Santeria. Having studied the use of what they call 'El Coco' or the casting of coconut shells I made a point to look for it. To my surprise I saw a word that looked much like Ogham or Ogam, which are variations of Ogham. The word 'ogun' was part of the process in what I think was one of the earliest methods of divination outside personal judgement or intuition.

To center oneself in Bibliomancy is a good way of showing what an important flux or conduit our soul can be in taking all things into consideration rather than just what the eyes or ears perceive, and the mind or ego often insist is the only reality to recent western theology. 'The Book of Answers' gives a short description of the process we think will be helpful for learning to accept your soul does exist and wisdom doesn't always allow itself to be seen.

How to Use the Book of Answers

1. Hold the closed book in your hand, on your lap, or on a table.

2. Take 10 or 15 seconds to concentrate on your question. Questions should be phrased closed-end, E.G. 'Is the job I'm applying for the right one?' or 'Should I travel this weekend?'

3. While visualising or speaking your question (one question at a time). Place one hand palm down on the book's front cover and STROKE THE EDGE of the pages, back to front.

4. When you sense the time is right, open the book and there will be your answer.

5. Repeat the process for as many questions as you have." (2)

My recommendation is to ask only important questions and make sure you have no other questions in your mind at the time. In beginning to read a book it is good to do this and then record what you read and thought about the contextual idea expressed. When you have read the whole book turn back to what your first question was and see if you found the most important part for yourself at that point in time. This will test your effectiveness in centering yourself as well as attuning with the knowledge in the books you read.

Many methods of intuitive thought are forms of divination. The common way we judge people by body movement and language has been very popular in sales as long as salesmen or saleswomen have been on this earth. Many top corporations ask astrologers to give their input on important decisions once they've narrowed their choices and contemplated their options. It is never a bad thing to have one's mind open to other possibilities and opportunities. However, over-dependence and reliance on such things will turn the process into a fear-driven experience that has no freshness or attunement at all, and may lead to negative self-fulfillment.

I won't lie: there are a lot of things I want in life, and some of them I'd even pay for. Rather than listing them in some aimless order so that I can feel bad about not having these things, I will instead focus on one thing that is actually attainable: a hidden driveway...

I've wanted a hidden driveway for as long as I can remember, which is sometime between yesterday and tomorrow. I was driving on a busy road when I saw the sign to my right that denoted the hidden driveway existed while implying I should be careful of it. And I was - because who am I not to follow a sign, especially when it pertains to something hidden?

Many would consider hidden driveways to be dangerous because a person who backs out of such a location may be hit by oncoming traffic - or even outgoing traffic, or even a wandering turtle with a jetpack. Sure, there are rearview and side mirrors, but those with hidden driveways are rebels, and rebels don't use mirrors except to adjust their ski masks and glow-in-the-dark sunglasses...

One may now be wondering why I would want a hidden driveway if they are indeed so dangerous. To begin, it would help to cut down random visits from people I don't want to see. I could even be extra nice to these people, inviting them over for the best cheesecake this side of Mouseville. But then, alas, they'd never find my driveway. Thus, I'd be known as a nice person who "unfortunately" lives at a location that is hard to find. This would also elevate the reputation of the cheesecake...

The better reason for wanting a hidden driveway, though, is that it would make me seem like a secret agent every time I leave for work, head for the local convenient store, or even move the car so that there is more room to play horseshoes. To add to the mystique of my persona, I would leave the driveway only when it is dark outside, or when everyone else is at some local festival that I skipped because of how hidden I am. Eventually, after a couple of years of keeping up this routine, I would not even need a car because no one would be able to see it anyway, which contradicts the reason for having one. Rather, I would walk everywhere that is within walking distance - and everything else I would have delivered...

Such would be the life of a person with a hidden driveway. If you have one, please invite me over sometime soon so I can practice backing out of one...

But I digress.

Re-entering the dating scene is rather scary, but as a single woman, mom of four, I decided it's time to play the field. After all, who wants to grow old single and alone? So, I consulted a few friends, an online dating service, and several single women I knew - but ultimately most of them are "satisfied with single". I decided to go straight to the source, the most interesting single person I know, who has interesting, challenging, and adventurous dates, knowing full well any advice I got would be direct, to the point, and daringly attractive to the kind of men I'm interested in: adventurous, intelligent, professionals, with a family oriented bent.

9. Never call him, make him call you from this point on.

10. Ask the big question - what do you want from me? See if he answers correctly, based on what you want at the moment.

The challenge of dating as a full time mom who loves her children and desires to have an interesting personal life as well as a great family life is to find men who are interested in similar things, with like values. A challenge, not impossible, that I took seriously through a series of options that led to a few dates.

A few tips for those of us who are a bit older:

1. Verify his intentions in the first few conversations. (If he's got different goals than you have, in the dating process, chances are he won't change them.)

2. Be sure you know your own boundaries - and tell him.

3. Remember everyone has a life, all lives have baggage, and nobody wants to carry your load too.

4. Be yourself and be comfortable.

5. If he's not your type, cut him loose and let him fly. If you're not his type don't take it personally.

More than anything, have fun, don't get serious too fast, and pursue your own life interests - NOT his.

She notes: "Before I did that, my subscriber numbers were in the hundreds, not thousands.

2. Put a subscribe box on every page of the site. This has worked for both Jenna and me. Mine is parked in the left hand column of the site. Experts advise putting a simple sign up box (with freebie mentioned) in the top left hand corner, as that's where the eye naturally travels first. A simple sign up box that requests only email address works best.

3. Ad swaps. Exchange plugs for your ezine with another website, to run in eachother's ezines. Be sure to mention those freebies! Doing this on a regular basis with a rotating selection of web partners will keep your subscription page busy.

4. Cross-registration. I've found subscribers by having a plug for my ezine on the thank you page of a comparable (but not directly competitive) website. This offer is made to folks who just signed up for an ezine, and are therefore deemed &in the mood for more.' Offer a swap with your site, and try not to list more than about two other ezines. Also, make a point of including only really good, reliable publications that reach your target market.

5. Give away a bonus for other sites to use, based on your ezine. A popular web marketing technique is the special one or two-day promo that offers big bonus lists when you buy a certain product on those particular days. (I cover this promo technique in more detail in my ebook/binder, Get Known Now; How to Build Your Platform as a Self Help Expert.) So collect some of your best ezine essays, pack &em up in a downloadable PDF-based e-book, and offer it as a bonus these sites can use in their special promos. Don't forget juicy descriptive copy about your ezine, and a subscribe link at the end of your ebook. I've gotten hundreds of new readers this way, and much traffic to my site.

6. Announce ezine &events' on PRweb.com and other PR sites. There's an entire world of web-based press release distribution services out there, some of which are low cost or even free. So use them. But be sure to only plant press releases that are truly newsworthy, and thus likely to get press attention. Even if the media don't use your words this time, they'll hopefully file you as an expert for future use.

7. Use discussion boards or groups. These are sites frequented by gangs of people interested in the same thing. Avoid the unmoderated sites, because they're likely to be spam targets that generate little bonafide traffic. Boards found on member sites are the best. Don't spam the board with your subscribe message. Instead, offer some genuinely helpful info. Then sign off with a signature line that includes ezine and subscribe info. You can find some of these groups at groups.yahoo.com, topica.com, mail-list.com, and listfool.com for starters.

8. Sponsor other people's contests. Jenna Glatzer gives away products like her paid newsletter, Absolute Markets Premium Newsletter, to writers' groups, contests, and conferences that request it, regardless of size. I've tried this too, to good effect. Simply run an announcement in your ezine that you'd be happy to sponsor comparable events. Ask them to provide a URL for an event description so you know it's legit. Then offer up your gifts, and ask for a plug for your ezine and for them to talk up your dazzling freebie, as well. Jenna notes that groups she sponsors "often send out ads for us to their lists ... just as a thank you."

9. Run quality content. There's no substitute for heartfelt writing plus solid information about a subject that matters. Jenna writes: &The main reason our list stays so big is our &letter from the editor' ... Each week, I chronicle my writing life and my triumphs and failures ... when an article is killed, when I'm having trouble finishing a book ... And I share personal things, too, like when my grandfather died.... People write: & I feel like I know you so well.' And I think that's why they stay on the list, even when their mailbox fills up with dozens of other writer's newsletters.

10. Allow reprints. Allow any newsletter that wants to reprint your articles do so. I like to have an email requesting permission, so I can enter their info into a big database I use to track where I can send more articles in the future. I end each article with the line: You may reprint this article in your own ezine or website. Simply send an email requesting permission to EMAIL ADDRESS. Please be sure to include our full bio box at the end.

11. Create a survey or contest. This would be one of those newsworthy &ezine events' I mentioned above in point # 6. Make it a fun, relevant question that you could really develop a good, newsy story from. I did a survey asking people what they fought with their spouse/partner/boy or girlfriend about. The results made for the kind of reading offline media enjoy running short, 100-word pieces about (fillers.) I made sure to attribute the survey to my ezine, The Joy Letter, with a mention of the site's basic URL. You can get the technology to run your own survey and collect responses at surveymonkey.com (for a fee) or bravenet.com (for free.)

I think I could actually go on and on here. The possibilities seem to be endless. If you try even half of these techniques on a regular basis, you'll find your subscriber rates double and even triple. Here's to building your list ... the foundation that much of your traffic and success rely on.

How Healing The Past Empowers Your Future. Give Presence Not Presents.

Everyday I meet people who have a chronic upset that runs their lives, and I notice that they are not even aware of it. Often the pain has become buried in their unconscious; or if they are aware of it, they choose to deny any power to combat it.

Yet unless they seek healing, this energy locked up in their mind is a continual drain on their vitality. It is a parasite to their life-force.

The first step to true self-help is willing to be candid, notice what hurts, and find the therapy that is necessary to remove the psychic burden.

Those who do this will find that their whole life will open up. All the things that seemed impossible before suddenly become possible. They realize that they need not be amongst the walking wounded because help is near at hand. All they have to do is ask for it.

Most people deny or push back the events that hurt them, and when they do this, they choose the path of disempowerment.

They are burdened not by what actually happened, but by how they cling to their story of persecution. If it has been awful enough, they even numb out and blank out the persecution.

Their persecutor has indeed won over them; not only then, but also in the now. Their persecutor's malice not only disempowered them in the past, but continues to weaken them.

Often victims think that revenge is a desirable option and they feel that they might draw some satisfaction if they could strike out and hurt as they have been hurt, but often the persecutor is no longer available, and sometimes may even have died a long time ago.

Child-molestors, spousal abusers, terrorists and criminals rank among those who seek revenge, but because the persecutor is no longer available, they act out their rage on others who had nothing to do with their abuse.

Almost everybody has been tormented at one time or another. Those who are psychologically healthy have taken the effort to seek and find healing.

In your case, the cycle of your unhappiness can only stop when you decide that it is time to get your power back Until you make this decision, you will forever be persecuted, because your wounded psyche will continue to do your tormentors work.

Hell, in fact, is never letting the wound heal, but opening it up afresh when thought of your torment comes to mind. And a deeper hell is not even allowing the pain to reach consciousness but express itself through tormented behavior.

How do you let it go? That is the task of skilled therapy.

All psychological imbalances, whether mild, as in a neurosis, or chronic, as in a full blown psychosis, arise from embracing victimhood.

Unless a time comes when you confront your inner tormentors, no self-help course of study can help you "unleash the giant within."

Knowledge is not enough; emotional catharis is a necessity. Even this article can do nothing for you; it is what you do with it that makes a difference. Do you confront your past, and find a healer? Or do you live with it, and continue along the paths of least promise? We are always choosing, even when we choose not to choose.

Or maybe your young teenage daughter needs a coupon book offering taxi rides anywhere her and her friends want to be chauffeured for the night? You get the idea. Be creative.

INCENTIVES & BRIBES

Whatever politically correct word you use, incentives for children to get good grades or allowance given to complete weekly chores or reach behavioral goals are generally money or present oriented. I would like to suggest that you substitute presence for presents in this situation too once in a while. My parents used to take me to a good movie when I got good grades at the end of each quarter, even if I would have preferred the cash like my friends got, it strengthened our relationship more than the money ever would have.

When I was potty training my oldest daughter, instead of giving her candy to reinforce her efforts, I would let her draw an activity from a jar. She knew that I would drop everything and give her my undivided attention and presence to read her a story, color with her, eat a Popsicle with her, etc. Now that this same daughter is 8 and she would much rather have me cater and entertain at her sleep over party, than to be given an allowance as appreciation for doing her chores!

If you truly believe that Time = Money, than give a gift worth it's wealth in gold.

Thank-you letters are one of the most important letters that your non-profit mails to donors. They remind donors that they made the right decision in supporting your organization. They show that you are grateful for the donors gift. As a bonus, thank-you letters increase donor loyalty, strengthen relationships with your donors and increase your chances of receiving more gifts in the future. So here are some pointers for writing effective thank-you letters.

Be personal.
Address your thank-you letter to your donor by name. Don't say "Dear Friend."

Say thank you, thank you, thank you.
Show your gratitude by repeating, in a few different ways, that you are thankful for your donor's gift.

Be specific if possible.
Mention the size of the gift, or the date that you received the gift, or at least say "Thank you for your recent gift." Donors are busy people who need to be reminded that they responded to your appeal.

Show how the donor's gift is being successful.
Reinforce in your donor's mind that sending a gift was a wise investment in the work of your organization. Describe a recent success that was made possible by the donor's generosity. Or show in other specific, tangible ways, how or where the donors gift is making a difference in the lives of the people that your non-profit serves.

Thank the supporter, not the donor.
Somewhere in your letter, acknowledge that you value your reader as someone who supports your organization and believes in your mission. No one likes being treated like an automated banking machine.

Show a genuine interest

in your donor by inviting them to write you, or phone you, or visit your website, or drop by your mission, or in some other way strengthen your relationship.

Be soft in asking for more funds.
Your thank-you letter should say thanks. If you follow your thanks with an immediate and aggressive appeal for more funds, you may cheapen your thanks and offend your supporter. So be gentle, and soft-sell the request for another gift.

Strive for originality.
Be fresh. Make your letter unique. Avoid language that sounds like it was churned out by a bureaucracy.

Below is a thank-you letter that Doctors Without Borders (MSF) mailed to donors who responded to their appeal letter for their work in Afghanistan.

to surf sites are washing across the Internet like a tidal wave. As powerful waves settle, new sites pop up out of the foam like tiny islands. But are you likely to get beached with Gilligan and the Crew, or end up on Fantasy Island with Mr. Roarke and Tattoo?

The answer depends on which ones you decide to trust.

If you're not familiar with them yet, then you're probably new to the Internet. Either that or something terrible has happened to your computer, your cable has been cut off, or there has been some strange mishap with your phone line...for the last 2 years.

But not to worry, the paid to surf site is not the Bermuda Triangle and can be easily navigated.

1) You register.

2) You upgrade. (Paid to surf sites don't use the word "invest" for legal reasons...but most members consider their upgrades to be investments.

Your upgrade is based on how much you want to earn each day. The top paid to surf site pays up to $750 per day on your upgrades).

3) You surf. (You are paid a percentage of your upgrade each day that you surf a set number of sites).

and

4) You get paid. (Unless you've been stranded on Gilligan's Island; and as you may know, Gilligan's lovable, but his ship never comes in.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of Gilligan's Islands out there. That's why it's important to make sure your vessel is sea worthy and there are no adverse weather reports. But how do you inspect your craft? And where do you go for a weather report?

Well, tighten your life vests, the Coast Guard has come to the rescue!

The first thing you should do is visit the site's forum. If there isn't a forum, what is the administrator afraid of? Stay away. If there is a forum, what do the members say about the site? What "aren't" the member's saying about the site? If the forum seems to have been shut down...no recent posts...no new threads...then there's rough seas ahead, me matey. Sail on.

Next, it's a good idea to search for problems at scam sites. There are 2 good options below:

1) http://www.ripoffreport.com (I think this one is the best).

2) http://www.scam.com (There's quite a bit of shameless self-promotion at times, but it's a good site).

There are a couple of things to consider when doing a search for scams:

1) Just because it's not listed, that doesn't mean it's not a scam. Many people don't know about these resources.

and

2) Just because it is listed, it doesn't necessarily mean that the program is a scam; however, if you find that there are dozens of complaints about a particular company...sailor beware. If there are only one or two complaints...it could be a case of a pirate with an ax to grind. Take the complaint with a grain of sea-salt.

Next, check out everything at the site. The FAQ is important, but you also want to check if the site has a backup plan. Is there a safety net?

Some examples would be:

1) Is the site diversified? Is it backed up by other programs?

2) Does it have a reserve fund?

3) Does it have its own payment processor? This is a big plus.

4) Does it allow you to make a lot of money in a short period of time but isn't backed up by other programs? Then it's probably a sinking ship.

5) Does it have a good record? or is it new? New sites aren't necessarily bad, but they can be risky.

6) Look for professionalism in the site. If there are lots of misspelled words and grammatical errors...that's not a good sign. (If there are only one or two...it's okay. It may bother you...but it's okay). This does not apply to member testimonials by the way. Those are usually published as is...and some of them can be pretty appalling.

7) How many members does it have? The more the better.

8) How much has been paid in through the member's fees? The more the better.

If the site passes up to this point, then go ahead and join as a free member. The next test will be the member's area. Once you get into your member's area, look for any administrative posts that may be there. Are they saying things like: "We've almost got the server problems fixed." or "We should be able to start paying members again soon." or "We seem to have gotten the DDOS attack under control." If you see any of the above...log out.

Now if the site passes everything, give it a whirl.

Just remember the golden rule of investing (I mean upgrading). Never invest (upgrade) more than you can afford to lose.

10. Manage your job search as if it were a sales campaign. Even the world's best sales person will not make every sale but knows that each new contact increases the chance of success.

Practice these tips to build a sense of security, even if initially fragile, and your mental outlook will bloom, allowing you to remain calm in the face of the panic of those around you who walk in constant fear of layoff.

We've probably all had the same thought at some time or another, as we trudge off towards another day at work - the same work we've been doing day in day out for years - "surely there has to be a better way?" Slaving away to make somebody else rich just doesn't seem right somehow, but what alternative? Setting up a new business, or buying an established one, are both expensive and risky prospects. So how can the disenchanted employee ever hope to make the switch from wage-slave to total independence?

Those are thoughts I had almost every day, before I quit the safety of full time employment and decided to strike out on my own. I asked myself the same question day in and day out; surely there has to be a better way. What about the internet, I wondered, isn't that supposed to be bringing new and exciting opportunities to all? I researched a lot of so-called work-from-home opportunities that promised untold riches, apparently mine for the taking just by sitting in front of my PC. Needless to say, in reality those schemes turned out to be about as fulfilling as, well, filling envelopes for a living. No, I knew there had to be another way - something real - something where I could be in control of my own destiny.

And then one morning on the train to work, I read about a couple of Wall Street boys who had struck it rich thanks to some huge bonuses, and were now going it alone setting up their own day trading shop. That was when I discovered day trading, and I realised that this was exactly the opportunity I had been searching for. I decided there and then that I was going to make a full time living from the stock markets, whatever it took to succeed.

The advantages of day trading as a job are numerous to say the least; there is no boss to answer to, no customers to satisfy, no suppliers to let you down, no waiting for invoices to be paid, I could go on. In fact, I will: trading is a location-independent activity - I can work from anywhere with an internet connection, which effectively means anywhere in the world with a telephone line. I regularly trade from my laptop whilst travelling. I can trade when I feel like it, and take time off when I like, which means I can spend quality time with my family.

Now let's get this straight, trading can be a risky activity, there is no doubt about that. So is driving a car to work, but the risks of getting from A to B on four wheels are well understood and are managed accordingly, to the point where we don't think twice about getting behind the wheel. And in the same way, provided a trader is disciplined in their approach to the job at hand, and understands the associated risks of the work, so those risks can be managed.

Day trading, swing trading and position trading for stocks and commodities

On the subject of risk, day trading is almost unique in that it can be learnt and practised with absolutely no financial risk at all, by means of paper-trading - that is - trading using freely available simulation software. Thus in the same way a trainee airline pilot won't be let loose into the skies without having learnt and rehearsed their skills in a simulator, so a new trader can employ the same technique before they start trading real money. I "sim-traded" before I gave up the day-job; it made it easy to leave the safety-net of a monthly pay check knowing from my simulated trading sessions that I could already make money in the markets.

And that brings me to the most satisfying aspect of trading for a living; money.

Trade the Nasdaq

On an average day trading the Nasdaq, it is not unusual to make more money in a couple of hours than I used to make in a whole month working full time as a wage-slave. There are bad days of course, days where things just don't work out, but they pale into insignificance over the course of a week or a month. It certainly took some intensive studying and a lot of practise before becoming a consistently profitable trader. But the end result of that hard work is an immensely valuable life skill that nobody can take away, and which allows for incredible freedom.

What do you do?

We live in an age where people are more likely to ask "What do you do?" rather than the more proper "How do you do?". People are expected to specialize. Granted, I am speaking generally. I am a generalist.

But what if people were to heed the advice and warnings of a Schopenhauer or a Fuller? Is it possible they would become more fully human? More well-rounded as we say? More of a lady or gentleman, as was once the code?

Bloggers, from what I have seen in my years of blogging, tend to be more generalist than specialist, except for a few who are both...which is to say they have wide knowledge and interests, but also have one or two things that they know a great deal about.

Business bloggers, ideally, fall into this last category. They know a great deal about their company, service, products and so on, but also have a wide-band tuning which allows them to connect with people of all stripes, types and interests. After all, one should not expect that a customer or client know all the fine points of what they are seeking to buy, yet the seller should know those fine points, but also a good deal about the customer as well. This is where a wide-band understanding comes in handy.

The business blogger is a specialist AND a generalist. And if she's not, you might want to remedy the situation, one way or another. The kindest way is to educate them.

If they don't know the products or services...teach them about them. If they don't know how to write, how to deal with people, the give-and-take of conversation...you have a more difficult problem, but not an insurmountable one. Just one that may take more time. So when hiring your business bloggers, look first for those who have decent social and verbal skills. You can teach them the bidness in shorter time.

To Everything, there is a Seasoned Blogger

But...should you hire a seasoned blogger, or a new blogger? Would it not be better to create your own Frankenstein and have them simply say what you want them to say?

My vote is for seasoned bloggers, for a variety of reasons. The first being perhaps best exemplified in this quote also from "The Art of Literature":

"There are, first of all, two kinds of authors: those who write for the subject's sake, and those who write for writing's sake. While the one have had thoughts or experiences which seem to them worth communicating, the others want money; and so they write, for money. Their thinking is part of the business of writing. They may be recognized by the way in which they spin out their thoughts to the greatest possible length; then, too, by the very nature of their thoughts, which are only half-true, perverse, forced, vacillating; again, by the aversion they generally show to saying anything straight out, so that they may seem other than they are. Hence their writing is deficient in clearness and definiteness, and it is not long before they betray that their only object in writing at all is to cover paper. This sometimes happens with the best authors; now and then, for example, with Lessing in his Dramaturgie, and even in many of Jean Paul's romances. As soon as the reader perceives this, let him throw the book away; for time is precious. The truth is that when an author begins to write for the sake of covering paper, he is cheating the reader; because he writes under the pretext that he has something to say.

Writing for money and reservation of copyright are, at bottom, the ruin of literature. No one writes anything that is worth writing, unless he writes entirely for the sake of his subject. What an inestimable boon it would be, if in every branch of literature there were only a few books, but those excellent! This can never happen, as long as money is to be made by writing. It seems as though the money lay under a curse; for every author degenerates as soon as he begins to put pen to paper in any way for the sake of gain. Seasoned bloggers have written, oftentimes, for years for little or no money at all. People who say they will blog if you pay them may write what they are told, but in that case, why not write it yourself?

The Blog and the Walking Stick

"The pen is to thought what the stick is to walking; but you walk most easily when you have no stick, and you think with the greatest perfection when you have no pen in your hand. It is only when a man begins to be old that he likes to use a stick and is glad to take up his pen." - "The Art of Literature"

Another advantage to hiring seasoned bloggers is that you can see where they've been, see what they've blogged, learned whether or not they can sustain the writing over time. A new blogger may actually run out of things to say. Seasoned bloggers are seasoned because they are still writing. The others you call ex-bloggers.

New bloggers may enjoy blogging for a time, but then they are seized with youthful wanderlust, and the next thing you know they are out chasing phantoms. A good seasoned blogger, on the other hand, is interwoven into the fabric of the blogosphere, and is content to make his or her mark there. And because they are part of the blogosphere, they are not an island, but rather a constellation, or, in some cases, a galaxy. You have not hired one yea-sayer, you have hired potentially dozens or hundreds, even thousands of yea-sayers. I daresay that, in some cases, you may have won even millions of yea-sayers. These, of course, are few and far between, but the future is likely to look a lot different than the past.

And should you get the occasional chorus of nays, count your lucky stars that you have a free feedback mechanism. Your adjustments might prove far better press than the grunts that led to the change. And all companies change. Only some never learn the reasons why they should have, and suffer the consequences of their ignorance.

The question is not if. It is when. So when you hire someone (or a team of someones) in order to connect your company to the blogosphere, you may want to keep some of these points in mind. Your blog need not be literature, but there is nothing wrong with having a beautifully written, edifying body of work associated with your company. In time it may be your greatest legacy. For surely a future Twain or Faulkner or Ogilvy will be borne in these enabling laboratories of discovery. And the world needs more employment, not less. Choose, act, but act wisely. It's good to be first. But it's better to be good.

The Beginner's Guide to Natural Living

It is an incredible feat that organisms can begin from one cell and then differentiate and compartmentalize into the millions of diverse tissue and organ niches that represent a mature body. Why brain, fingernail, liver, intestine and bone cells ever become what they are is mystery enough. Why they stay what they have become while still retaining the full genetic information to produce an entire new body, compounds the miracle even more.

Cancer is a condition in which cells lose their orientation and proliferate uncontrollably. Any cell can become cancerous. A lot of them do, but are squelched by cell death (apoptosis), the immune system or nipped in the bud by DNA repair mechanisms. Successful cancer cells escape these impediments, disregard normal cellular checks and balances and become an island unto themselves with only their own survival and self-interests at heart.

The cause of cancer is no mystery. It is our aberrant modern living context that has put us at cancer risk. When cells are forced to bathe in a milieu (the tissue soup we create with modern foods, drugs and lifestyle) entirely unlike what they are genetically programmed to expect, they revert to their most primitive directive - multiply, multiply, multiply - without regard for neighbors. It's a sort of payback for our disregard for "neighbors" when we pollute and repudiate nature. Why should our cells be polite to their neighbors if we don't have regard for ours? Since the immune system is compromised from the chronic stresses created by modern living, defenses are down.

Today, about one in three humans will get cancer. In pets it is worse and perhaps the leading cause of death. No evidence exists that the disease was of similar incidence before our modern era. One person in 30 got cancer at the beginning of the 20th century, now almost one in two do.

Some will say that the only reason the incidence has increased is because humans and animals live longer due to modern medical measures. So when science fails in their mission to defeat cancer, they cleverly spin the failure as their success.

As I have shown previously (Why Modern Medicine is the Greatest Threat to Health http://www.wysong.net/health/post_77_061902.shtml), this is nonsense since modern medical measures are themselves probably the number one threat to life.

The reason for cancer and most chronic degenerative diseases is modern living, pure and simple. We have subjected ourselves to an artificial environment to which we are not adapted. Nature - not exhaust, sugar, pop and plastic - is what we are designed for. Screw with Mother Nature and a price will be paid.

Whatever the inciting cause, it is known that inducement and propogation needs to be relentless and of long-standing duration. Cancer can have a latency period of decades, requiring continuous exposure to the inciting stress. Our departure from our genetic roots certainly qualifies.

If disease does not strike immediately after a bad life choice, then the conclusion is that the choice is just fine. We refuse to take the long view and make intelligent decisions now for consequences that may not emerge until years later. It's a common human failing we see replayed in every aspect of human endeavor. It's the modus operandi in government, economics, agriculture, social issues and health care. Living in the moment is what children and animals do. We should do better with the pounds of gyri and sulci resting on our shoulders.

Nevertheless, this common sense approach (returning to our genetic roots) to preventing cancer and other diseases will be ignored. Instead we will pour billions of dollars into research to discover the cure for cancer. But there will never be a cure other than respecting our genetic heritage and living, eating, breathing and drinking as we were designed to do. A pill or vaccine to save us just isn't going to happen.

Let me give some examples of recent research findings that reveal the obvious. First there is the "discovery" that fresh fruits and vegetables contain anti-cancer nutrients such as antioxidants, vitamins and flavanoids.

Natural Cancer Treatments

Why would they not be anti-cancer, they are the natural food of humans? No research is necessary to discover that!

Then there is the "discovery" that cancer preferentially feeds on glucose, diverting it from body use and inefficiently metabolizing it by glycolysis into lactate and a couple ATP energy molecules. (Glucose normally yields 38 ATP.) The body then has to reconvert the lactate back, via the Cori cycle, into glucose (at an energy cost). The net result is that the cancer acts like an energy sink resulting in cachexia, a pathetic condition of severe muscle wasting and debilitation.

Modern diets are laden with sugar and starches that not only provide the perfect food for cancer but the perfect acidic medium in tissues. Processed sugar and starch is not a natural human food. No research is needed to discover that!

Research has also shown that a low carbohydrate, high protein, high arginine (meat amino acid), low omega-6 fatty acid and high omega-3 fatty acid diet is useful for both preventing and treating cancer. Tumor cells do not do well on fats or protein. But they love that sugar. The natural, raw diet for humans and their pets

is high in fat (the preferred energy source) and protein, high in omega-3 fatty acids (fish, wild meat, some seeds and vegetables) and low in omega-6 fatty acids (grains, grain-fed meats and most oils), and is alkalinizing. This is no scientific discovery. It's common sense.

But companies are clamoring to patent versions of natural diets and crediting their science for discovering the obvious. Examples are new patented, "cancer-fighting" foods featuring high fat, high omega-3 fatty acids, low carbohydrates, and high protein and arginine. Finally, feeding people and pets what they should have been getting all along (as, I hate to say, I have been arguing for decades) is so novel that it is patentable!

It is the edge-of-the-map science that is responsible for this sorry state of affairs. Like the ancient mariners who believed the world ended where their maps left off, science has assumed that calories, regardless of their source, were the edge of their map. Their nutritional world ends with calories and percentages of known nutrients. Science has insisted that if a human or animal requires X calories per pound each day, it matters not whether those calories come from fresh, real foods or Twinkies. That's why hospital patients paying a thousand dollars a night dine on Registered Dietician Jell-O, diet pop and instant potatoes.

What has been ignored is that calories are not the edge of the map; ships do not drop off the Earth when they disappear over the horizon. Now the world beyond the edge of conventional medicine and nutrition is slowly being rediscovered. The world is round... and people and animals require their natural, genetically programmed diet that lies beyond the edge of science's calories. Quality of calories do matter and is a whole new world promising health.

So, to increase the chance of having cancer, or to speed its progression, eating the standard modern fare is the way to go. Get lots of sugar and lots of grain-based foods such as pasta, bread, cereal, bagels, donuts (which convert to sugar after consumed) and lots of vegetable oils. Increase carbohydrates, eat oleo and look for low-fat foods. Drink very little water and instead enjoy acidified pop and municipal acidic water. Tumors thrive on this banquet.

You can wait for "research" to prove that natural foods and natural living (fresh air, exercise, sunlight, loving relationships) prevent and reverse cancer, or you can be a thinking person and apply this obvious wisdom beginning today.

You could borrow a book on insects from your local library, or check out some entomology websites to learn more about what roles and functions they have. After all, you don't want to kill off any allies!

Maybe, but the moles' tunnels leave mounds of dirt on the ground above, and their shallow tunnels cause uneven ground.

Gophers, the largest of the pesky pair, have buckteeth and small ears. These creatures love to dine on your grass and plant roots. Gophers also leave mounds of dirt, but they do far more damage underground, causing sinkholes. While your green may not encompass as many acres of the turf in the movie Caddyshack, they can cause just as much recurring trouble. Getting rids of gophers and moles leads to one grand solution- killing them. There are also more conventional methods, such as traps.

The best way to deal with pests though is to perhaps not have them at all. This can be achieved by taking preventative measures in your lawn. But of course, nature has a mind of its own!

Good teachers have the knowledge, but great teachers can explain it in a simple yet fascinating way. If you took a lesson in the past and didn't see immediate results, try a different instructor. Not all problems are easy to fix, but you should get a firm understanding of what you are doing wrong, why you are changing it, and what you need to do.

It is also possible that you just don't take the game serious enough. You might be perfectly happy with your game and just don't have the time to improve. Besides, golf is just a game. If you don't put in the time, you have no right to get upset, throw clubs, and embarrass yourself. Simply put, if you are confused or frustrated you are ready for instruction.

Let's just say that I've managed to peak your curiosity about golf lessons. There are several ways to go about it. If you have a lot of time and would like to stretch out the learning process, take private lessons.

A typical series of private lessons works like this: You take one private lesson every two weeks. By the end of a series, you hope to have your swing down and be able to try it on the course. This is because what you usually get from a traditional golf lesson is a swing lesson. And a swing lesson can be great. It can be the difference between quitting the game and playing it forever. But after a few of these swing lessons we get trapped into thinking our swing is why we are not doing very well.

The reality is that the game is more than having a good golf swing.

We will cover several facets of the game, have lunch, and spend the afternoon on the golf course. On the course, I can see how you play and will have a clear understanding of what is really holding you back.

In My Opinion
I'm not always right, but I'm never in doubt. I feel the best way to take instruction is to take a series of lessons that focus on basic technique. Learn basic techniques for putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play and the fullswing. Then, at some point during the series, you need an evaluation of your ability to play the game. Take an on-course private lesson or join a One Day Golf School. On-course instruction is very beneficial, and could be the best way to increase your fun meter!

A free alternative is to obtain a free credit report. Thanks to a law passed last year, Americans can obtain one free report from each of the three credit bureaus per year through a special Website. By obtaining one report every four months, consumers can keep an eye on activity under their name for free. This is not nearly as effective as subscribing to a monitoring plan, which will notify you when activity takes place, but it is better than doing nothing at all. With the recent security breaches by major credit card processors, consumers who are worried about being victims of identity theft have genuine concerns. The credit bureaus are doing what they can to help, and the monitoring programs and free credit reports are a step in the right direction.

Imagine that you are in a dimly-lit room. You don't know how you ended up here, but you are now in it and you are trying to find your way out of it. You see a door to your right side and walk up towards it. Right before your eyes, the top corner of the door starts to get blurry and you can see something like letters starting to materialize. It's not clear at first, but suddenly the words are sharp and vivid and it reads "SUCCESS". Pushing the door open doesn't work and it feels like it's stuck. You try to push it some more and it still doesn't open. You start to move your hands on the door to see whether there is a knob that you can turn. As you are feeling your way on the door, you realize that there is a lock. Success is something you truly want to achieve and it's right there on the other side of the door. You now need the key. Panic sets in and you frantically crawl around the room looking for the key to this door you need to get through. After what seems like hours you sit down in the corner mourning your misfortune. Reaching into your pocket for your handkerchief to wipe off your sweat, you feel something in your pocket. It feels like a..... Yes! Yes! It is the key! You are now secure and the only thing between you and success is the action that you need to take to put the key into the lock, turning it, and then walking through the door.

Readers, I know what you are thinking. "Life is not like that!" "It's not that simple!" "How I wish the key was with me!" We are all looking for success but we haven't found that key that can take us there. We believe the key is somewhere else; in our circumstances, in other people, in our position, or in the friends we know, but not in us. If you are looking outside for success or hoping that it is going to come to you, let me tell you up front that you are looking in vain because THE KEY IS WITH YOU. You have this key at all times. It's just that we are looking at the wrong place for the key. Before reaching success, the one fact that you will need to always keep in mind is that the key is with you!

The key that is within you that will set you on the path to success is DESIRE. Desire is not a negative sin that we should get rid of, but rather something that you truly need in order to get through the door of success. You need to have a desire and then convert this desire into an overwhelming purpose for your life. It has been said by many teachers in the personal development field that you cannot hit a target that you don't see. Millions of people today are not looking to create an overwhelming purpose for themselves that they can reach and work towards and then wonder why nothing is happening to them. There are other obstacles to creating this desire as well.

One of the main obstacles that stop people from creating a purpose for themselves is fear. How many times have we heard from those "well meaning" people that it's better not to have high hopes so that we won't feel bad when we don't get it? They are right in a way, but we have generalized their sentence to a lot of other areas. It is true that you shouldn't have high hopes. You should on the other hand develop high expectations! It's easy for many people to hope they'll be successful one day, but how many people can truly say that they expect to be successful one day? You have to learn to expect a lot from life because what you expect you will one day get! I don't understand how this works but it does! Everyone who has ever wanted anything in their lives and have received it started off with turning it into a desire, expecting it to happen, and then working towards creating it. Hopes don't move people into action; expectations do!

We have to realize that this fear instilled in us is not something that will serve us. No one in this world understands what they are capable of doing until they have the opportunity to use their power. The powers that we have within us are innumerable and limitless! We focus more on our weaknesses and end up being paralyzed with fear. We have to start learning to expect success and trust in the law that whatever we transform into a burning desire will one day show up in the material world if we shed our fears, develop plans, and then take action on turning that burning desire into a reality in our world.

The key has been with us all along. It's still with us waiting to be used. How long are you going to wait for circumstances to change? How long are you going to sit there and hope something comes your way? How long are you going to crawl and hide in the world knowing that if you want anything it has to be created by you? The key is with you. Develop a desire and know that it can and will come true. It has come true for millions using this method, why won't it come true for you?

honed surface), including GRANITES. Sealers DO NOT prevent
staining as they are a moisture barrier only, yet they will help to give
you a small amount of time to wipe up spills. It is nearly impossible to
prevent staining or etching, but serious stains can be almost
completely removed and any etching can be resurfaced if either is
truly bothersome to you. To help keep a perspective on choosing to
use natural stone, remember the following:

1. For centuries, many European countries have used
natural stone from floor to ceiling, inside and out. The
stone becomes stained, cracked, pitted...and that is why
we love it! These characteristics only make it that much
more beautiful. (Only we Americans get uptight about
such things!)
2. Because stone is quarried from the earth and not "man"
made, it is improbable to ever find two exact matching
tiles or matching slabs for that matter. One slab may even
look different from each end of itself. That is also the
beauty because each piece is different, but when pieces
are put together as a whole it is a masterpiece! (Be sure
to purchase enough to complete your project as you may
not be able to get more from the same lot.)
3. Stone is timeless. It does not get dated like the 70's
Avocado Green and Harvest Gold d�½cor did.
4. Stone will last longer than any of us will. There are
centuries old castles, made of 100% stone and still
standing today!
5. It is a natural resource that will never run out.
6. The more it is used, the faster a "Patina" (light sheen on
the surface) will develop. The "Patina" will also aid to
prevent staining to a lesser degree.

4. Q. WHAT IS THE BEST STONE TO USE IN MY HOME?

A. It is really a matter of choice and the look you want to achieve. Ask yourself the following questions when making your decision: Is it
beautiful to me? Do I love it? Could I live with it for years?
The best advice that I can ever give to anyone choosing stone is: Go
with what you are drawn to from the beginning. First, because you
will only spend a lot of time and become confused when laboring over
the "right" decision by looking at many different stones and colors;
secondly, you will probably not be happy with your selection if you
have to settle on something else; and finally, you will more than likely go back to what you liked the first time. Reviewing the following most used
stone types will help when you are ready to make your choice.

GRANITES -- Granites usually have a "spattered" or "swirled"
grain and can contain many colors (minerals). Generally, granites
have a polished finished and have a "busy" look, but to keep up
with current trends, more manufacturers are producing honed
(smooth & unpolished) and flamed (rough textured) surfaces.
Granites may be purchased in slab and dimensional tile form and
can be used in almost any application. It has become ever popular
as it is being used frequently in newly built tract housing,
apartment/condominium complexes and commercial buildings.
Granites are imported from many countries and have just as many
colors and sizes to choose from. A note in using polished granite is
to know that it can be slippery to walk on until a patina builds on
it. As with any other commodity, stone is also graded for quality
standards. Be wary if it is extremely inexpensive...(less than $7.00
per square foot unless you are buying a large quantity.) The price
ranges in granites can be anywhere in between $8.00 to $90.00 per
square foot, depending on the color, rarity and where the stone
comes from. The "blue" stones, containing minerals/gems such as
sodalite are usually in the higher priced ranges.

LIMESTONES - There are many types of limestone available and
vary to many degrees, depending upon where it comes from.
Unpopular to belief, limestone is also a perfectly suitable stone to
use in all areas of your home. Most limestones have softer earth
tone colors; may contain a "swirl" veining movement throughout;
can contain fossils; or may have a light speckled grain.
Limestones, just like granite or any other natural stone can stain,
etch or get scratched, but again, you should not use natural stone
if this will bother you. Limestone also is widely available in
dimensional tile and slab form. This stone is used most frequently
in higher-end homes, architectural designs and commercial
applications as it is easy to work with, the colors are muted
compared to granites, it is available in as many finishes and
textures as granite and it is still relatively new to the market. It is
still considered to be a "custom" choice, as it has not reached the
overuse level of granite. Some limestones from countries such as
France and Portugal can be somewhat porous but are perfect for
flooring, backsplashes, fireplace surrounds and outdoor uses.
Limestone from countries such as the US and Israel (Jerusalem
Stone) are generally heavier and usually as dense as granite, which
makes it suitable for almost every application.

SLATES - Slate used to be used mainly for chalkboard, billiard
tables, science lab areas and roof tiles. However, in recent years it
has become more popular for residential use in most applications,
with the exception of fabricated counter tops. Slate tiles are
generally rough in surface texture, with the exception of the
tumbled version. Most slates are available in a wide variety of
sizes in dimensional tiles; a few in slab form and most can be
gotten in crates of random pieces like flagstone. It is a perfect
stone for water areas such as showers & spas, patio/driveway
areas, pool surrounds and roofing applications. Most slates
contain a huge variation of color, even within the same lot and
some will even look to have been stained from spills of red wine,
which is not the case. This is caused from earth minerals such as
iron and only adds to the beauty of the stone. Slate holds onto heat
well, which is another reason besides being fire proof; it is widely
used as roofing material. (Use light colors in outdoor areas where
you may be walking barefoot!) Since slates have a softer property,
be aware that it can shale off the surface more easily. This will not
harm it per se, but may cause you concern if you are not aware
that it happens. One of the difficulties of slate is that it is varied in
thickness. Because of the shale properties, it is very difficult to cut
evenly. Generally, manufacturers will cut them with a "gauged"
thickness or "sawn back" treatment, leaving one side smoother.
Because of the varied thickness between each piece of tile, specific
sized installations may be more of a challenge, so expect your

installer costs to be a bit higher. Slate itself is generally a less
costlier stone. Expect anywhere from $4.00 - $8.00 per square foot,
dependent upon the grade and country of origin. Again, beware of
any extremely inexpensive prices and be sure to check the quality
of the slate to be sure that it has not been filled with dyes. Test by
holding a piece under running water for a few minutes and also by
putting a few tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice on it and
wiping off. If any color comes off, return it immediately! Just a
note: I only recommend using any acidic solution on stone in this
instance for testing purposes only.

MARBLE - Most people are familiar with marble in many uses.
From Greek statues to Roman baths, marble has been used for
centuries in just about every possible application, both interior
and exterior. Marble has the same general properties of limestone
and can stain, etch or scratch, but it only becomes more beautiful
over time and use. It is readily available in just about every color,
size, finish and texture known to man. Most marbles have a
veining of a mineral throughout them and are generally thought to
be from Italy, but it in actuality it is quarried from all over the
world. Tumbled marble has become extremely popular in the
United States in the last few years for backsplash, flooring and
shower areas. Prices range from $6.00 - $30.00 per square foot,
again dependent upon the rarity, color and country of origin. A
couple of drawbacks to marble to be aware of is: 1. Green marbles
containing serpentine need to be installed in water areas with
specific setting guidelines that your installer should know of as
water can warp and break apart green marbles; 2. Polished
marble can be slippery to walk upon until a patina has built up on
the surface.

TRAVERTINE - Travertine is marble, except it is filled with
"holes." To understand what causes the holes, think of it this
way...wherever a river or stream was prior to the marble being
quarried is where you will find travertine. Because of the holes,
people can be scared off because travertine is generally thought to
be more porous and not suitable for residential use. This is not the
case, as all of those holes become filled in with grout during
installation, giving it a very unique look. The same travertine can
be used in two separate areas but appear another way just by
using two different grout colors! Travertine can be purchased
with the holes pre-filled, but in my experience with it, I don't
recommend it. In general, the epoxy fill that is used has a color to
it that does not look natural to the stone and it has a tendency to
come out after a short amount of time in high traffic areas. Expect
to pay anywhere from $5.00 - $15.00 per square foot.

5. Q. IS STONE MORE DIFFICULT OR COSTLY TO INSTALL THAN
CERAMIC TILE?

A. On the whole, it is not more difficult to install. There are exceptions
of course such as the difficulties with thickness gauges, which takes
more time in planing the layout and whether a complex pattern is being used. As for cost it is generally not more expensive except for time spent on laying out patterns and the thickness gauging again, at least for the tile contractors I have worked on projects with. The setting supplies and procedures are the same, but stone is heavier to work with. I suggest talking it over with your installer and also taking the time to look at previous jobs he or she has installed if possible. I will be giving tips on selecting a tile contractor/installer in my next article.

6. Q. CAN A STONE DESIGN BE USED OR MIXED WITH OTHER
KINDS OF MATERIALS?

A. Absolutely! The possibilities are endless. You can incorporate stone
with ceramic, porcelain, glass, and terracotta...anything you can
think of, even mixing different types of stones together.

7. Q. HOW DO I FIGURE THE QUANTITY THAT I WILL NEED?

A. Generally, tile and stone for a "field" area (space where plain tile will be) is figured by the square foot. To figure square footage, measure the area that you will be putting the tile with a tape measure. Examples:

1. You measure your room and it comes out to be 10-1/2 feet
wide by 15-3/4 feet long...you would calculate it by
multiplying 10.5x15.75 = 165.38. Round this number off
to the closest whole number (165). I suggest adding on a
10-15% overage to plan for cuts, breakage and a little
extra to store in case a piece needs to be replaced later in
time.

2. You measure your wall area to be covered and you get
18" tall and 33" long. Multiply 18x33 = 594". Now divide
that number by 144, resulting in 4.13sf. (There are 144 sq.
inches per square foot). Again, round it off and add on
for overage.

When figuring for decorative tile or trim, it is usually by the piece
and calculated by the lineal foot.

For slabs, it is best to let your fabricator figure the quantity for you.

8. Q. WHAT SIZE GROUT JOINTS SHOULD I USE?

A. Again, this is a matter of choice and the look you prefer. Honed stone
can usually be butt-jointed (tight to each other) with very little grout
showing if you want to see much grout or grid pattern; tumbled stone
usually has a 1/8" to 1/4" grout joint which will show off the edges
more.

9. Q. WHAT SIZE OF STONE TILE SHOULD I USE FOR MY
PROJECT?

A. It depends upon the project itself and the area size. Something to
keep in mind is that if the area to be tiled is small, it is better to use a
bigger size tile, if you want the area to appear larger. It is not
uncommon to believe that if you have a small perimeter of floor that
you should use a 4", 6", or 12" tile, which is not necessary. When
doing so, it will make the area feel small and you will have more grout
joints.

10. Q. I DON'T LIKE THE GRID PATTERN I SEE FREQUENTLY.
WHAT CAN YOU SUGGEST FOR AN ALTERNATIVE?

A. There are many pre-set repeating stone patterns available, or you can
make your own "random" pattern from different size pieces of stone.
A pre-set pattern is easier to use and the amount of stone that will be
needed for the project will be easier to figure. To also help from
keeping a grid pattern from being so obvious is to use a grout color
that is as close as possible to the color of the stone. Using dark grout
with light tile, or light grout with dark tile was a popular look in the
80's. However, I think it is better to see as little grout as possible. Your stone is the expensive part of your project so you should want to show it off, not your grout!

11. Q. CAN YOU HELP ME WITH DESIGNING MY STONE LAYOUT?

A. Yes, I can. I charge an hourly fee of $75 and I will need several things
from you:

1. A copy of your blueprints, including the elevations if you
have them and the area to be tiled clearly marked; or a
drawing of the area, including the dimensions and the
area to be tiled shown. Make sure to specify what
room/location it is, if it is not marked on the blueprint.
2. The style of home you have; or the look you prefer,
i.e....rustic, contemporary, elegant, traditional...
3. Whether or not you have already chosen your stone. If
so, what did you pick and what size? If not, do you want
me to make suggestions for you? If yes, do you have a set
budget?
4. Will you want to use decorative trim pieces? If so, did you
choose one yet? What are the dimensions of a piece(s)?

Not Listening Can Hurt Your Small Business. In the Nick of Time: Your Car's Serpentine Belt.

Most small business owners seek advisors who can help them improve their businesses. They want advice from those who have the experience and really know what they're talking about. But they can only benefit from the sound counsel if they listen to the expert's guidance. Unfortunately, there are some entrepreneurs who aren't going to hear the professionals out or follow a plan no matter what. At that point, experts realize that they might as well save their breath and hope that the business owner will eventually see the error of their ways before it's too late.

When it comes to offering his advice, franchisee Sam Badgley is very up front with his Fiducial clients in Williamstown, WV. He tells them exactly what he expects and makes it very clear what they need to do to follow his recommendations. If he encounters someone who repeatedly ignores everything he's been telling them which is a total waste of his time, he then decides to cut them loose as a client.

"Through experience I've learned that when you run into somebody like that they are not going to change," said Badgley.

Trust gives you a great advantage

Where the problems usually occur between advisor and client is in the administration of the account where owners fail to deliver the timely data Badgley needs to help their business.

"I'll get them to set timetables and set some of those goals or targets but they just repeatedly miss them," he said.

For those businesses heading for bankruptcy that have not heeded his advice, Badgley has suggested to owners that maybe they might want to work for another company.

"Either they have never worked for somebody or they don't have confidence," he said. "They don't understand that they could work for somebody else. I see the deer in the headlights look."

Badgley says that you can tell whether or not people are going to be receptive to change.

"Most people who come to you are desperate," he said. "They are in trouble-its crisis city and you can pretty well tell whether they've been there before and what caused it. They are always willing to change to solve the problem but you don't know if they're willing to go beyond that."

That's where experience helps, says Badgley, because after you've seen enough and been told enough things it all begins to sound very similar. He thinks that trust with any business profession gives you a great advantage because you know what has been successful with those types of comments so you can really cut to the chase.

Over the years Badgley has tried following up with former clients to see how they're doing and whether they eventually came around.

"By and large most just continue to struggle but for me it's kind of frustrating," he said. "That's the challenge."

New stage of business development

Lisa Borgerding, a CPA and business advisor in Fiducial's Arvada, CO, office cited several scenarios of clients who ran into difficulty by not heeding the advice of their advisors.

The first client is in the construction field and owes about $10,000 in payroll taxes to the Internal Revenue Service. Tack on penalties and interest and it's easy to see why this situation is having such a great impact on their business. Borgerding noted that whether you claim bankruptcy or not, payroll taxes are not going to go away.

"That's one of the largest expenses they're ever going to pay," she said. "They just don't realize how serious it is."

And since they've dug themselves such a large hole it's going to be even that much harder for them to escape it.

Another client owns a repackaging company that also hasn't paid its payroll taxes. Companies can easily fall into this trap especially when the economy takes a turn and they didn't have the volume of sales they normally do. But when advisors put together a payment plan to try and right the ship, owners need to follow through.

Experts maintain that it's difficult for some entrepreneurs to accept advice from others because they've built their business from the ground up by themselves.

"The reason for that is they've had success using their own intuition," said Dr. Ralph Daniel, a business psychologist and family business governance expert at the Center for Family Business Dynamics in Santa Barbara, CA. "They've done really well following their gut instincts while other advisors were wrong. They say &why should I listen this time?' "

Entrepreneurs also fail to notice when they've entered a new stage of business development due to some kind of major change in their operation that could have been brought on by such factors as new owners, loss of owners or major growth.

"The owners don't realize they're in a new ballpark with a new set of rules they need to follow," Daniel said.

Being hard-headed can cost you

Roger Bierman, a Fiducial franchisee relations manager for Alaska and the North Central and Northwest regions, says there's no shortage of procrastinators in the small business ranks who listen to what you have to say but never put the wheels in motion.

"Some have to hear it many, many times," said Bierman. "There's an association between success and those people who react more quickly to changing trends and the procrastinators who just sit there and tread water."

For unsuccessful owners who procrastinate, nothing's ever going to happen so they can grow their business.

"Those that sit out there and don't follow a system are least likely to succeed but you need that to show it to the people who are doing things," he said. "There is a difference between night and day."

Bierman has a close friend who's owned an asphalt and concrete business for 10 years as a middle man in various projects. He advised the owner to lower his prices but the owner procrastinated for two years on his pricing and it ended up costing him a lot of money.

"He always wanted to run between 25% and 30% profit on his end but when you add that to the bill you get prices out of the market," he said. "I told him if you lowered your price and get back to the 15% to 18% range then you would make it up through volume."

This example does finish on an up note because the owner finally came around and lowered his prices two years later.

"Sometimes by not listening to good advice and being hard-headed it can cost you money," Bierman said. "That happens to a lot of people. They continue to use bad practices and some don't catch it until it's too late. Then they find themselves buried where they never can see daylight."

Personal fortune is on the line

No matter how strongly Fiducial advisors plead their case to convince clients, they can only go so far in the process.

Gene Polley, a senior business advisor in Fiducial's San Diego office, has a contractor client who does stucco work in the housing boom that's just making money hand over fist. But until he makes some changes in his operation, the contractor is going to be paying vast sums needlessly to the IRS when Polley says he could have designated some of those funds for a self-directed retirement plan. He has recommended on numerous occasions that the client change his business entity from a sole proprietorship to an S corporation to protect his interests.

"I guess he's just too busy to listen to my advice," said Polley. "He has multiple vehicles but his personal fortune is on the line every time one of his employees gets into a vehicle."

It's frustrating for Polley watching clients throwing money away on taxes when it could have been put to better use in the business but he knows there's a limit to how hard you can push people.

"You give people the experience of your years and sometimes they listen," he said. "Sometimes they listen to you the first time but it varies from client to client. You still keep on telling them to do the right thing."

In dealing with clients of both sexes Polley has discovered that women are smart enough to realize what they don't know while men only like advice when things are going well.

"When they're on a downward trend they really don't want to hear it," he said.

Perhaps it's the very strength that the business was founded on that is also its greatest weakness.

"Business people are successful because they're self-assured and have been able to buck the trend because they have this independent attitude," Polley added. "They don't follow conventional wisdom in getting into the business."

But that sometimes makes it harder for the owner to listen and act on the sound advice they've been given.

Dr. Daniel of the Center for Family Business Dynamics added that in his experience, the "Rule of Three" often applies to owners who resist advice.

"They don't believe it until they hear the same difficult advice from the third person," he said.

Motor Oils and Engine Lubrication Book: Motor Oil Engineers

Recently, my friend called me from a roadside Dairy Queen in frenzy. His dad had been driving his Ford car down the highway and heard and awful noise. First, there was a squeal and then what sounded like a whip smacking the underneath of his hood. They weren't sure what was happening, but after investigating, found that a black rubber belt was half-eaten off its pulleys.

"Is the belt still on there?" I asked.

"Well, half of it is," he continued as if the world were ending. "My dad ripped the part that was hanging off and now only half remains!" "Have you driven it? How many miles are on that thing?" I questioned. "Yeah. We drove it into the parking lot here. I think it's got ninety thousand." He said flabbergasted.

After a couple more minutes of my friend's ranting about his dad's mechanical shortcomings, I took a risk and told them to slowly drive it over to my house (which was only five minutes away).

This problem seems all too common with owners of modern cars. The serpentine belt, both black and cracked, which had half-shredded itself under my friend's hood should have been replaced long before. The problem could have been prevented.

Before this problem happens to you, you should be sure to check the belts when you do a regular check-up on your car. If you're a do-it-yourself kind of person, then when you change the oil, be sure that you check the serpentine belt with each and every oil change (or if you use synthetic oil that doesn't need changed as often, check your belt every 3,000 to 5,000 miles).

The serpentine belt is so called because it looks like a snake as it curves around various drive pulleys. As stated, many modern automobiles have this sort of belt because it's a lot easier (and less expensive) to install than older "V" belts; plus they last about 50% longer.

A serpentine belt maintains its tension via a spring-loaded pulley. The belt connects to and helps function your alternator, power steering, air conditioning and water pump. You should never break down on the side of the road due to this belt breaking from wear and tear. The problem is easily preventable. Simply check the belt for cracking, fraying or if it looks aged. However, even if the belt looks excellent, it may be time to change it. The time interval will depend upon the recommendation from the manufacturer (see your car's manual), but it's safe to say that it should be replaced every 60,000 miles, or every two to three years.

If the problem persists and you find yourself having to change the serpentine belt every few months, then it's another issue. Most likely, there is a problem with the alignment of one of the pulleys. Many times, there could be a problem with what's called the harmonic balancer. While this sounds nice, this part is located on the front of the crankshaft. It's made up of an inner steel section, a rubber sleeve, and a pulley with grooves that the belt fits over. If there's a problem with this, you'll most definitely have to check to see if it's in alignment with a straightedge. If you notice it's not aligned with the other pulleys, then take the car to a professional. They may have to move the entire engine over to work on it.

If you take your car to a mechanic for an oil change, ask about the serpentine belt at that time. Be sure that s/he has inspected all the belts thoroughly. If they recommend changing the belt, be sure that they use a high-quality one. It's recommended to use the best made, and most likely, the most expensive (usually around 18 to 45 bucks). And, be sure to buy your belt from a respectable auto-parts store as different stores carry different brands and types. Ask your mechanic if they properly dispose of the belt. If it's some person's home business, you may want to take the belt to a professional mechanics shop and ask them if they can dispose of it properly. It's a good idea to keep Mother Nature in tune too! Finally, ask your mechanic if s/he did a test of the belt while the car was in operation.

However, if you're doing research on a serpentine belt, you've already won half the battle. Why not try and change it yourself? If you got some tools and a place to work, then you might feel quite "handy" once you see that it's not that hard of a job!

First, you'll want to buy a new high-quality belt. And, be sure to buy a pulley ratchet made for your car. This will allow you to loosen the tension pulley later. So, hopefully your belt hasn't come off on its own yet. If not, go ahead and draw a little schematic of how the belt goes around each and every pulley. I like to draw it with as much detail as possible. If the belt has already shredded off, then I recommend searching the Internet for a schematic of how the new belt should be placed. It can seem baffling at first. Be sure you find a drawing for the exact date, year and model of your car.

With my friend's car, we drew a schematic, but still became a bit confused once we had snapped the belt off. So, we went to the Internet for a back-up check.

Next, we took cutters and snapped off the remaining shredded belt. This isn't recommended. It's better to locate the tension pulley (the pulley that keeps the belt snug on all the other pulley's and pumps), take the pulley ratchet and push it counter clockwise. You might have to use another tool (i.e. a hollow bar) for added leverage, as sometimes the tension pulley is difficult to budge. Remove the old belt.

Next, check the old belt and new belt together. Are they the same length? Is there the same amount of grooves on each? If so, continue.

Put the new belt around the other pulleys according to your schematic. Be sure that the grooves in the pulleys match-up to the grooves on the belt. You don't want it slipping off while driving!

Finally, if the tension pulley is underneath the car, you may have a difficult time holding the pulley loose and putting on the belt. Perhaps there is a friend who could help you. During the aforementioned replacement of my friend's belt, I held the pulley while he made sure the belt was in-line with the grooves and that it looked good according to our schematic. Now, be sure all fingers are moved out of the way and slowly allow the pulley to draw itself tight again, thereby causing the serpentine belt to tighten around as whole.

Check to make sure the belt is aligned on each and every pulley, especially if there are grooves for the belt to fit into. If so, start it up and see if it runs smoothly.

So, instead of ending up on the side of the road in a parking lot at Dairy Queen learning a lesson, check the serpentine belt on your car often.

There are as many reasons you've given yourself to eat as there are minutes in a day. Storm clouds do it for me. They trigger a memory from when I lived in Florida and went deep-sea fishing in Key West. When a squall was imminent, we'd pull our boat into a nearby atoll and wait out the storm while eating fresh fish sandwiches and drinking cold beer. Sandwiches are finger foods, which I now steer clear of, and I don't drink beer anymore, but the smell of a rainstorm can be a powerful pitfall for me. I don't act on it, but the memory is a tantalizing trigger, nevertheless.

A splash of red wine on white pants may not trigger an overeating episode nor will the car not starting, a flat tire, and your cell phone losing a signal at 4:58 p.m. when you must reach someone before 5:00 p.m. But these things have a cumulative effect, and all the mini-annoyances have the potential of becoming maxi-eating responses by the end of the day.

You might stumble because you saw your favorite dessert on a restaurant menu. Or a celebration may convert a tentative no to an emphatic yes as soon as you hear a champagne cork pop from a bottle.

Consider the reasons you're tempted to eat. Highlight or circle the ones to which you respond. There are many and they are varied.

Do you eat because you're hungry? Do you even know what hunger is? Or are you eating because you're lonely, tired, angry, or bored?

Think of all the reasons you eat that have nothing to do with hunger.

Perhaps you eat because you're up: it's your birthday, my birthday, our anniversary, or Groundhog's Day; or because you're down: sad, or grieving. You might eat because it's there, or someone else is eating so why not you? Is food easily available in your office, your home? Do you eat in your car?

Are you eating because of good news? Bad news? No news? One man said he eats during the news.

You might find yourself eating some foods because they came with a restaurant dinner or others because they came free with your airplane ticket or hotel room. There's bread on the table in a restaurant, peanuts on the plane, chocolates on your pillow, and you think: I'll never pass this way again.

To some, food is seen as a reward: I've been so good all day. I didn't have breakfast. I didn't have lunch. I'll just have this side of beef for dinner. Of course, if you're feeling stuffed, bloated, and not so good about yourself, then overeating is not a reward. It is a punishment.

When a young woman used the excuse that she overate prior to going to the ballet, I asked, did you dance? Unless she was dancing on that stage, she ate too much for dinner. She ate more than she was able to burn.

For many, food has become a socially acceptable drug. It seems to numb the tensions and stresses of your life. Perhaps you use food to stuff down feelings and thoughts you don't want to feel or think or to escape.

Do you eat when you're frustrated, disappointed, or angry? One fellow told me he knocked off a box of cookies and a pint of ice cream when the courts awarded his ex-wife a big divorce settlement. I wanted to know if she had returned the alimony check when she realized he was hurting himself.

Although eating doesn't change the outcome of anything but your waistline and self-esteem, you might still be eating to cheer yourself up when you're down. Or not to feel so alone when you're without company. Or to socialize: you don't want to be left out. You might continue eating even though your clothes are too tight and you're huffing and puffing when you walk. That is part of addiction: you continue doing what you do even though there are negative consequences.

Perhaps you eat because you're bored or have to fill unstructured time, such as evenings and weekends, or because you experience family, business, money, or peer-group pressure: ("Come on. We're all going for pizza and we want you to come.") You don't want to be left out. You might use food to avoid intimacy or sex. Perhaps you use food to avoid nurturing or being nurtured. You are procrastinating: ("I'll have lunch first and then work on that report.")

You might eat during food preparation and put-away. Perhaps because once you start you can't stop. You might think, what the hell, I blew it anyway. Maybe food is used as a reward because you did something wonderful, or a punishment because you already overate and figure What the hell, it won't make a difference. When you smell the coffee in your office or the popcorn in a movie, or fresh donuts in a bakery, do you queue up? Do you use food as a meal extender? You're having such a nice time and don't want the evening to end so you order another cup of coffee, a cocktail, a dessert. You're entertaining guests. There is an abundance of extra food and all those leftovers.

Going home to family is tricky for some. You may feel guilty that your family and friends have been cooking since last Thursday, and you have to taste (and comment on) everything that is offered. Does the cook get offended if you don't have seconds and thirds?

We eat differently when we are in the company of two people, three people, four people, more people. A recent study said that people who eat with six or more other people consume a whopping 78% more than they would if they ate alone. The more people there are, the more food is offered.

The longer food remains on the table, the longer you're tempted to eat.

Are you too tired to cook so you pick pick pick and convince yourself you didn't eat anything?

A point to remember:

If it's not water, it's food.

And this, too:

If you swallowed it, you ate it. It all adds up.

Whether you overeat because of genetics, ethnicity, religion, circumstance, or emotion doesn't matter. Perhaps you eat for some of these reasons or all of these reasons. Each person gets into the habit of using food inappropriately by eating for reasons you tell yourself it's okay to eat, even if you're not hungry. Having followed these habits for such a long time - sometimes decades - they've become involuntary conditioned responses. Just as Pavlov's dogs, when a stimulus appears, can a yes, thank you, be far behind? The intelligent you, thinks you shouldn't be doing what you're doing, but you can't stop. That's the sneaky part of the addiction - as if making up your mind will do the trick when it never has before. This might be the moment to make a list of the reasons you eat. Put down the breadstick and get a pencil.

After seeing my list, a middle-aged woman said to me, "According to your program, I haven't been hungry since 1963." She was correct. She and you may have misidentified these situations, circumstances, and emotions as hunger for such a long time, you've lost your innate ability to identify this most basic of feelings.

If you're trying to satisfy a physical hunger, your body doesn't require a great deal of food. If you're trying to fill an emotional hunger, you could back up a truck full of food to your home or office, and it would never, ever, contain enough food. "Okay guys, put the Mallomars in the cabinet, the H�½agen-Dazs in the freezer. The Twinkerdoodles go on the bed."

If you become so overwhelmed, confused and paralyzed with not knowing what to do about this multi-faceted, many-layered topic of weight control that you can't stop eating once you start, chances are you do nothing.

If hungry, you need to nourish the body. If, along the way, it also tastes good, looks good, and smells good, you've got a bonus. But you shouldn't be eating because it looks, smells, and tastes good. Almost everything fits that criteria.

If you're thirsty, drink water.

If you're responding to one of the above stimuli, change habits by creating new and constructive responses to replace your old and destructive ones. This is called repatterning.

I might have missed one of your Possible Pitfalls, but you get the idea. Add yours if it's not here. Observe how you eat when you're up or down, alone or with friends. We even eat differently with men, differently with women, and another way with children. These pitfalls might be because of emotions, circumstances, or just because it's there or you're there, in the neighborhood where your favorite something is prepared as nowhere else in the world! Pitfalls can be any of these things or all of these things.

None of the Pitfalls I've described above are hunger. And if it's not hunger, it's not a reason to eat.

As a host, you need to consider the people that will be on the invitation list. Sometimes, finances are tight and buying gifts are tough. You have a couple of options. First, you could set the tone on the invitations advising that while gifts are appreciated, they are not mandatory. This way, people know they can attend the shower but not feel embarrassed if they come without a gift.

Another option is to purchase a few extra, inexpensive but nice gifts from the funds collected. As the host, if you know someone is one a tight budget, you could tactfully let them know that you had extra gifts purchased so if they need one, they are certainly more than welcome simply to take one to give the couple. This way, that individual could choose a gift to give without feeling bad.

SIBLING GIFTS

For siblings, a new baby in the home can be a stressful and insecure time. After all, they are used to getting all the attention and now, everyone who comes to the door is offering something to the new baby, completely looking past them. To ensure siblings are included, we would highly recommend the following:

Always speak to the sibling before making over the baby...

The sibling will know what is going on while the baby has no idea. Therefore, when you enter the home or place of the baby shower, take just a moment to greet the child. You would be amazed at how such a small gesture can make such a big impact. Not only is the child getting the recognition needed but also, the parents appreciate this since they too understand the insecurities occurring with the sibling.

There is no such thing as time management. You cannot control time, throw it out, sell it, or give it away. You cannot stop time; it goes on forever and ever. So, what can you do?

You can manage yourself in relation to time. What does that mean? Understand your personal relationship to time. You can do this in two ways.

15-->129-->1-->1-->1. Know what organizing methods work for you- how do you best meet deadlines and manage to get things done?

2. Strive for balance

The first way you can manage yourself in relation to time is by understanding yourself and what organizing methods work for you. Believe it or not, there is a behavioral pattern called Chronic Disorganization. To find out if you are chronically disorganized, ask yourself these questions (Kohlberg):

�½ Has getting organized been a challenge for you most of your adult life?

�½ Does being disorganized negatively affect your quality of life in some way every day?

�½ Have you been unable to sustain organization?

Get Organized Now. Tips and ideas to help you get organized.

Many of the organizing tips and tools you see in print and in office supply stores do not work for people. That is because they are written by traditional organizers for traditional people. If you are chronically disorganized, (ask yourself the 3 questions above or check out the National Study Group for Chronically Disorganized, nsgcd.org), accept and value your differences and move on to understanding what works best for you. There are professional organizers out there who are very familiar with chronic disorganization.

Time is one thing that is especially hard for the Chronically disorganized due to its abstract nature. One thing you can do is to "touch" time. For example, using post-it notes instead of linear to-do lists is helpful for some because you can give yourself a task and move it around on your calendar or from place to place. It is a way of making time more physical. Another way to "touch" time is to use landmarks around the room you want to organize.

Organize Your Office

Say you want to organize your office. You can put a bronze lion paperweight on top of a stack of memos from your boss reminding you that these memos are from "the king of the jungle". Or you can use real travel landmarks, such as a Yield sign, on top of projects you need to delegate. Or at home, write tasks you need to complete on post-it notes. Place them around the house onto the actual areas needing work. On the drawers, put a note, "empty out and wipe down." Alternatively, if you are an auditory learner, use a tape recorder to record tasks you need to complete.

Again, these atypical methods are suggested for anyone and especially for those who nothing has worked for before.

The second way for you to manage yourself in relation to time is to strive for balance.

Picture a table with several legs. If any of those legs are shorter than the other, the whole table is thrown off balance. So too, in your life, we all have several "legs" or vital categories we want and need to spend time on, namely: self, family, spirituality, education, financial, social, health. In applying the table analogy to time and life balancing, you do not need to spend an equal amount of time on each category, rather enough time on each one. Otherwise, everything gets thrown out of balance.

For example, a person pulls all-nighters for a work deadline. He/She becomes tired and crabby, upsetting the family, and comes down with a cold because of the jeopardized immune system. See how the whole "table" is thrown off?

It is important to make sure your daily, weekly, and monthly schedule reflect your vital categories in life. If you are spending lots of time on things that are not one of your table "legs", your tasks are not reflecting your life goals and priorities. No wonder you feel stressed and out of balance!

So, take a deep breath and assess your life as it is now. Are you spending your time on the areas you value most? If not, delete, delay, delegate and diminish these tasks. Always consider the 4 Ds.

By learning more about yourself; understanding what organizing methods work best for you and what your goals and priorities truly are- it is my hope that you will experience the meaning and balance in your life that you seek.
